Operating in Tanzania since 2005, Good Neighbors promotes the protection of children’s rights and fosters sustainable development through community empowerment, leadership, and ownership. The organization is currently seeking a qualified Project Manager to lead a strategic agriculture-based initiative in Songwe Region.

About the Project

The selected Project Manager will oversee the implementation of the KOICA-funded initiative titled:
“Securing Economic Safety Nets for Maize Farmers through a Grain Network of Cooperatives in the Southern Border Region of Tanzania (Songwe).”

This project aims to enhance the economic security of maize farmers by strengthening cooperative networks and building storage infrastructure. The Project Manager will be responsible for directing all aspects of the project, from team management and operational oversight to stakeholder coordination and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Supervision and Operations

    • Manage the day-to-day implementation of the KOICA project and monitor work progress.

    • Guide staff with annual planning, recruitment, and performance management.

    • Conduct weekly office meetings to assess project status and address challenges.

    • Review and approve staff documents, plans, and reports to ensure compliance and quality.

  2. Team and Office Management

    • Ensure all systems and processes align with organizational standards.

    • Support a collaborative and client-focused project culture.

    • Oversee team structure, procedures, and operational efficiency.

  3. Stakeholder Engagement

    • Coordinate partnerships with government offices, AMCOS, and community stakeholders.

    • Represent the organization in meetings, forums, and policy discussions related to the project.

    • Ensure alignment of the project with local development priorities.

  4. Reporting and Documentation

    • Develop periodic progress reports, donor updates, budgets, and evaluations.

    • Supervise the endline study and contribute to the preparation of final project documentation.

  5. Planning and Implementation of Infrastructure Activities

    • Oversee construction-related activities, including the development of two grain storage warehouses.

    • Manage logistical aspects of procurement, site planning, and vendor coordination.

  6. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

    • Monitor project indicators and milestones through a robust DME framework.

    • Analyze lessons learned and integrate improvements into ongoing planning.

Qualifications and Requirements

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Community Development, Project Management, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years in community development, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.

  • Proven experience managing donor-funded projects, preferably in agriculture or rural development.

Technical Skills

  • Strong project planning, budgeting, and implementation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Additional Competencies

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Cultural sensitivity and commitment to participatory, community-led development.

  • Willingness to work in rural or semi-urban project locations.
