About the Role

SUMAIT University seeks an experienced Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal services and strategic guidance. This senior role ensures the University’s operations comply with all legal requirements while protecting its institutional rights and interests.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Serve as primary legal advisor to University leadership on all institutional matters
• Review and draft contracts, MoUs, leases, and other legal documents
• Represent the University in judicial/administrative proceedings and negotiations
• Conduct legal research and prepare opinions on diverse issues
• Serve as Secretary to the University Council and Management Committee
• Manage relationships with external counsel and oversee litigation
• Provide legal training to faculty and staff through seminars
• Stay current on legal developments affecting higher education
• Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:
• LL.B degree from an accredited law school
• 3-4 years of relevant legal experience
• Admission to practice law in Tanzania
• Strong expertise in contract law and regulatory compliance

Preferred:
• Experience in higher education or public sector law
• Knowledge of Tanzanian education laws and policies
• Background in corporate law, real estate, or employment law
