Employment Opportunities at the Catholic University of Mbeya (CUoM)

The Catholic University of Mbeya (CUoM), a private university owned by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), is located in Mbeya City. As a quality-based institution committed to its rapid growth, CUoM invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacancies:

A. Academic Positions

1. Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Economics (2 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics from a recognized higher learning institution in Tanzania; OR
  • Master’s degree (MA/MSc) in Economics with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and a Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) in Economics with a minimum GPA of 3.7 from recognized higher learning institutions in Tanzania.

2. Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics (2 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mathematics from a recognized higher learning institution in Tanzania; OR
  • MSc in Mathematics with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BSc in Mathematics with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

3. Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) (2 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science from a recognized higher learning institution in Tanzania; OR
  • MSc in Computer Science with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BSc in Computer Science with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

4. Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Accounting and Finance (2 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Accounting and Finance from a recognized higher learning institution in Tanzania; OR
  • Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

5. Lecturer in Law (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Law; OR
  • Master’s degree (LLM) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and Bachelor’s degree (LLB) with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

6. Assistant Lecturer in Law (4 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (LLM) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and Bachelor’s degree (LLB) with a minimum GPA of 3.7.
  • Priority will be given to applicants with qualifications in ICT Law or Tax Law.

7. Assistant Lecturer in Literature (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA) in Literature with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAED) with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

8. Assistant Lecturer in Kiswahili-Isimu (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA) in Kiswahili-Isimu with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BAED with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

9. Assistant Lecturer in Kiswahili-Fasihi (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA) in Kiswahili-Fasihi with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BAED with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

10. Assistant Lecturer in Linguistics (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA) in Linguistics with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BAED with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

11. Assistant Lecturer in Education (2 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA) in Education with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BAED with a minimum GPA of 3.7.
  • Priority will be given to applicants specializing in Educational Measurement and Evaluation.

12. Assistant Lecturer in Human Resource Management (2 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MHRM) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and Bachelor’s degree (BHRM) with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

13. Assistant Lecturer in Library Studies and Records Management (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA/MSc) in Library Studies and Records Management with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BA/BSc with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

14. Assistant Lecturer in History (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA) in History with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BAED with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

15. Assistant Lecturer in Geography (1 Post)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MA/MSc) in Geography with a minimum GPA of 4.0 and BAED with a minimum GPA of 3.7.

B. Non-Academic Positions

16. Accountant/Assistant Accountant (3 Posts)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance with at least 3 years of experience and ICT skills.
  • Registration with NBAA as an Authorized/Certified Accountant.
  • CPA qualification is an added advantage.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance with equivalent qualifications.

C. Duties and Responsibilities

Lecturers:

  • Teach and organize at least two courses per semester.
  • Conduct seminars, tutorials, and supervise students’ research.
  • Pursue research and publish articles, books, or original findings.
  • Participate in curriculum development and institutional activities.
  • Mentor junior staff and perform other duties as assigned.

Assistant Lecturers:

  • Deliver lectures, conduct seminars, and supervise students’ work.
  • Counsel students and prepare exams.
  • Pursue knowledge in the field of specialization through research and publications.
  • Participate in institutional activities and comply with all lawful instructions.

Accountants/Assistant Accountants:

  • Manage and coordinate financial operations, including budgets, accounts, salaries, and investments.
  • Prepare financial statements and maintain ledger accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and assist in audits.

D. Remuneration

  • Attractive salaries and a conducive working environment will be provided to successful candidates.

E. General Conditions

  • Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens.
  • Attach a recent passport-size photograph.
  • Certification of all copies by relevant authorities is required.
  • Provisional results, Form IV/VI results slips, and unverified foreign certificates will not be considered.
  • Applicants with special needs (disabilities) must specify their needs.
  • Evidence of recognition of foreign awards by NECTA or TCU is required for those who studied abroad.

F. Application Process

Submit a complete application package, including:

  • A signed application letter and current CV.
  • Certified copies of academic certificates, transcripts, and National ID or NIDA number.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Names and contact details of three referees.
