Internship Purpose

The Clinical Officer Interns will be based at IHI’s Clinical Trials Facility in Bagamoyo, working on various clinical research activities. Interns will support patient care, participant recruitment, and follow-up, playing a vital role in the execution of clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in community sensitization and retention meetings for study participants

  • Provide patient care in alignment with Tanzania’s National Standard Treatment Guidelines

  • Review lab results and resolve data collection queries

  • Attend internal and external facility meetings

  • Support in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and study documents

  • Recruit, follow up, and retain participants per protocol and SOP

  • Ensure ethical standards and protocol adherence during trial implementation

  • Supervise and oversee study procedures as per ICH-GCP and national regulations

  • Collaborate with community engagement coordinators and local health facilities

  • Perform additional project-related duties as assigned by the Project Leader

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine

  • Must be enrolled and licensed to practice by the Medical Council of Tanganyika

Desired Skills and Competencies

  • Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital data tools

  • Good time management and ability to meet deadlines

  • Effective communication skills in both English and Swahili

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities

  • Self-driven and able to work independently

  • Committed to professional ethics and integrity

  • Willingness to work in field settings and engage with communities
