Role Purpose:

The System Admin will manage and maintain backup systems, ensuring that data is regularly backed up and restored during data loss events and that business continuity is upheld in data-related emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Backup & Restore Systems Management

• System Configuration: Install and configure backup software and hardware to optimize systems for the organization’s needs.
• Data Protection: Safeguard data by maintaining backup systems to prevent data loss due to hardware failures, cyberattacks, or human errors.
• Disaster Recovery: Restore data from backups during data loss events to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
• Training: Attend relevant training and courses for self-development and staying up-to-date with technology.

Systems Maintenance & Monitoring

• Monitoring: Regularly monitor backup logs and troubleshoot any issues to ensure continuous data backups.
• Performance Monitoring: Track system performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and latency) and report as needed.
• System Maintenance: Perform system maintenance activities when required.

Systems Security & Compliance

• System Configuration: Ensure all systems are securely configured according to existing policies and best practices.
• Vulnerability Fixing: Address vulnerabilities identified through penetration tests and audits.
• Security Tools: Install and configure security tools as per company policies.
• Compliance: Ensure systems are compliant with security standards and update systems accordingly.

Business Continuity Management

• Backup Configuration: Ensure all critical systems are backed up as per their criticality.
• Redundancy Strategy: Create and maintain a technical recovery plan and facilitate disaster recovery and backup restoration tests.

Customer & End-User Support

• Support: Provide 1st and 2nd line support for backup and restore systems as needed.
• Problem Resolution: Liaise with vendors and IT personnel to resolve issues and provide root cause assessments for critical incidents.

Who You Are:

Core Competencies, Knowledge & Experience

• Commvault Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Commvault software and managing backup and recovery processes.
• Virtualization Technologies: Experience with VMware and cloud technologies (private & public).
• System Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with systems monitoring and performance analysis tools.
• Operating Systems: Proficient in Redhat Linux, Oracle Linux, and Windows.
• Troubleshooting: Ability to resolve backup failures, data recovery, and system performance issues.
• Capacity Management: Skilled in planning and forecasting capacity needs.

Technical/Professional Qualifications

• Backup Software & Hardware: Knowledge of EMC, Commvault, Oracle ZFS, NetApp, NetBackup, and EMC Networker.
• High Availability Implementation: Experience with Active-Active high availability setups.
• Virtualization Knowledge: Familiarity with VMware servers.
• Hardware Knowledge: Understanding of HP/Dell/Oracle hardware.
• Experience: At least 1 year of experience in IT system infrastructure.
